I decided it was time to get out and use the Tuna & Spice. I had recently re-joined another club locally, as it would give me access to some very nice old pretty carp, later on when winter arrived. After a quick walk around, one evening, I could not resist having a go the following week. I was unable to prebait any swims as it was quite a drive away, unlike my normal water, which I can get there in my lunch hour. This lake is like Carp lakes used to be when I s...

After a good result on week one I looked back on what bait we had the most takes on, squid liver and tigernuts over hemp seemed to be working well, but we were having a big problem with the bream, as we were using small amounts of bait. I decided to increase to 3 kg of bait per rod to overcome the bream. The forecast for the week was not looking too good as it was going to be very hot, but this didn't seem to put the fish off feeding. Due to the hot temperature we were havin...

After a great trip back in June with my good friend Stewart Downing fishing pegs 1 and 2, before I knew it I was back on the way to Rainbow. I had peg 14 this time and it wasn't fishing that good, as only 10 fish had been caught in 8 weeks. It was going to be hard to get any takes from this swim takes. I was teamed up with Ryan Need, we arrived at the swim to find that the Italians were packing up and only had caught 2 fish and had not seen a fish all week. Oh well.... we are...

Just a quick blog about who I am and how I ended up in the Berkley Gulp Army. Opportunities are few and far between. Especially up here in Anglesey they are. I work at a well known fishery so fish a lot and normally fish the odd commercial in the North west and the obvious places like Linear, also having a couple of syndicates is great , because its just nice to get away from it all. With living in on Anglesey there are carp are up here but they can be few and far b...

Just got back from a 3 day session on a Midlands syndicate. A stunning 17 acres with no other angler’s insight, perfection. After a circuit of the lake I picked the cow bank,’ don’t ask. The bait , after last week’s session wasn’t hard, Red Crustacean and Squid and Liver was the choice. After a lead around I found a couple of likely spots of silt just off a gravel patch, this was just behind a strip of marginal weed. After putting half a kilo of Red Crustacean on one rod and ...

Russell salmon (above) from Somerset landed his first ever ray which was a 15ib 5oz Undulate. Russell caught the ray while fishing aboard Flamer IV which was anchored on a reef south of Portland bill. The successful bait was a strip of ammo squid. The ray was released alive. David Hawker (above) landed a 6ib 12oz plaice while drift fishing. David was using 8lb class tackle with a two hook flatty trace with lots of coloured attractor beads on and a small silver blade ...

Terry’s Blogs The Latin name for these delicate members of the shark family is Galeus melastomus, and until a few years ago, they were almost un-heard of in Ireland. They are reasonably common in the deep waters of Western Scotland, but began to show up in good numbers around the Ulster coastline when small-boat anglers became proficient in deep-water anchoring. The Black-mouthed Dogfish is easily recognised by the anaconda-style elongated markings along the flanks and...

Well the summer holidays are nearing an end and I must say that I always feel a little sad as the days get colder and the nights draw in. Although we the family cannot complain as we have had a ball again this summer especially on our holidays where in between being drowned by the waves and buried in sand by my daughter I managed to catch ten different species of fish both from fresh and salt water. Sea trout to six pounds, on the fly at night and cod to five pounds from my c...
